Where you’ll be
Darwin, California, United States
Darwin is the nearest town to Death Valley National Park. We are in between Mt. Whitney the highest place and Badwater - the lowest part of the contiguous USA. It is truly a unique place - no stores or paved roads its very quiet, you can hear donkeys, coyotes, see lizards and jack rabbits. U2 Joshua tree is nearby - find it if you can. A waterfall, mines and rusty things. Many artists choose to live here for its inspiring landscape.Getting around
We are VERY remote - nearest town and stores for gas , food etc is 38 miles away in Lone Pine or 22 miles to Panamint Springs resort. We are however well situated for Las Vegas ( 3hrs) LA ( 4hrs) Mammoth (2.5hrs). You can access our place with a regular car - but 4X4 advised if you want to do some cool exploring.

PLEASE NOTE if Visiting Death Valley National Park in the summer.
Some rental car companies forbid it. If they do not - you'll need to travel through the park at day break or sunset. Your car can overheat using the air conditioning whilst driving up the hills. Make sure you have lots of water and prepare for the heat.

SUMMER starts early in Death Valley. By May the valley is too hot for most visitors, yet throughout the hottest months, visitors from around the world still flock to the park. Most summer visitors tour by car to the main points of interest along the paved roads but do little else due to the extreme heat. Those wanting to hike will find the trails to Telescope and Wildrose Peaks are at their best in summer, but it is best to wait.
