BOOK GLADYS THE RECYCLESCOPE  At 8ft tall and 6ft wide, with six kaleidoscopes, Gladys teaches how to sort recyclables in a fun and artistic way.  She educates the public about how to recycle and reduce their impact on landfills.  She has her own recycle buffet: a recycle sorting and transfer station.  She is a bit of a monster and has a large appetite for recycled items– one needs to sort and feed her to stop her from eating you! If you bring recyclables, sort them, and/or play with Gladys, you receive an “I fed Gladys” button.
Visit Gladys On-Site:  Ideal for schools, Gladys can be set up on-site so classes can visit her one at a time.  Presented by one of her handlers, students can expect an interactive and informative follow-up to the large audience Multi-media Presentation.
Field trips to Feed Gladys wherever she resides:  Classes can bring their collected and sorted recyclables to feed Gladys on site at the transfer station.  Fieldtrip’s can include a presentation, tour (in collaboration with Inyo County), and an on-site kaleidoscope workshop.
Demonstrations/Workshops: Designed for fairs, community events, after-school programs, or other small group situations, Gladys and her handlers will present an informative, entertaining, and interactive exhibition and offer a Kaleidoscope Making Workshop if appropriate.
Kaleidoscope Making Workshop Led by one of her artist handlers, participants will make their own kaleidoscope out of recycled materials

STEAM Curriculum activities and lessons, adaptable for all ages, used in combination with the Multimedia Presentation.  Designed for teachers and workshop presenters, students will explore the many ways they use recyclables each day, design and conduct simple experiments to test the properties of different types, learn how materials are made and recycled, and communicate their findings.  Gladys’ curriculum development will be done with consideration of National and California teaching Standards in Science, Art, and Mathematics.
Supplementary Materials Gladys swag, recycling information, and extension activities to send home.
Multimedia Presentation Ideal for school assemblies, or other large groups, this entertaining combination of live action, video, and slideshow elements can be used as a stand-alone environmental education presentation or in combination with the extension activities and STEAM curriculum materials.
